报告题目:Investigating the Coordination of Human Eye Gaze and Body Movements in Extended Reality

报告摘要:

Human eye gaze plays a significant role in many extended reality (XR) applications, such as gaze-contingent rendering, gaze-based interaction, gaze-guided redirected walking, or eye-based activity recognition. However, prior works on gaze analysis and estimation have only explored eye-head coordination and were limited to human-object interactions. In this talk, I will introduce our recent progress in investigating the coordination of human eye gaze and body movements in extended reality that covers 1). a comprehensive analysis of eye-body coordination in various human-object and human-human interaction activities; 2). a thorough investigation of the correlation between eye gaze and hand gestures during hand-object interactions; and 3) two novel gaze estimation models that exploit eye-hand-body coordination and achieve state-of-the-art performances.

报告题目:Effective Indoor Navigation and Object Viewing Techniques in VR Environments

报告摘要:

Virtual Reality (VR) presents unique opportunities to revolutionize user experiences in indoor environments such as museums, where traditional constraints on navigation and object interaction can be transcended. This talk presents two novel techniques to enhance indoor navigation and 3D artifact viewing in VR environments. The first work, MagicMap, is a novel navigation system designed for VR museums. Building upon the World-in-Miniature (WiM) map concept, MagicMap integrates curatorial principles into a hierarchical menu layout, allowing users to intuitively navigate complex indoor spaces. Through empirical studies, MagicMap has been shown to reduce cognitive workload, minimize motion sickness, and enhance overall user engagement and system usability. The second work, ResponsiveView, is a 3D responsive design framework for optimizing the viewing experience of virtual artifacts. By collecting empirical data on user preferences for parameters such as pedestal height, viewing distance, and object scale, we derived predictive functions that dynamically adjust these factors to suit individual users. ResponsiveView, inspired by responsive web design, automatically adapts the VR environment to deliver an optimal viewing experience. Validated with both controller-based interactions and hand tracking, this approach demonstrates significant improvements in artifact interaction and user satisfaction. Together, we highlight the potential of tailored navigation and interaction techniques to transform VR environments, offering insights and design principles applicable to VR museums and other complex indoor settings.
