报告题目:Multi-Axis Additive Manufacturing:Support-free,Mechanical Strength and Motion Planning


In this talk, I will present our recent work related to multi-axis additive manufacturing (i.e., MAAM). Although called 3D printing, the processing of material accumulation in most commercial AM systems is however taken in a 2.5D manner, which leads to two major problems – 1) supporting structures are needed below regions with large overhang and 2) weak mechanical strength between layers of accumulated materials. Both challenges are tackled in our work by incorporating multi-axis motion into the material deposition process.


Prof. Charlie C. L. Wang currently holds a Chair of Smart Manufacturing with the University of Manchester. Before joining Manchester in 2020, he was a Chair of Advanced Manufacturing at Delft University of Technology since 2016 and an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 2003. He also worked as a visiting professor at University of Southern California during sabbatical leave in 2011. He received his B.Eng. degree (1998) in mechatronics engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and his Ph.D. degree (2002) in mechanical engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Prof. Wang received several awards from professional societies including the ASME CIE Excellence in Research Award (2016), the ASME CIE Young Engineer Award (2009), seven Best Paper Awards and four project-oriented innovative technology awards. He was elected to be a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 2013, and is currently the Chair of Solid Modeling Association (SMA).

报告题目:Performance-oriented tool path and orientation planning for 5-axis CNC machining


5-axis CNC machining is an iconic manufacturing technology in modern industry, which dominates the manufacturing of key components in the fields of energy, power, national defense, vehicles, aerospace, etc. In these fields, the requirement for high-end equipment is strict, so that a large number of precision and complex curved parts with considerable machining difficulty and tight performance tolerances have emerged. The machining requirements for these parts has been evolving from simple shape and position accuracy in the past towards high performance requirements that place equal emphasis on accuracy and performance. This brings severe challenges to the traditional CNC machining technology for complex curved parts. The topic of this talk is tool path and orientation planning closely related to 5-axis machining of parts with complex shapes. The latest work of our team and some real-world industrial applications will be presented and shared with you.




王伟明,大连理工大学数学科学学院副教授、硕士生导师,代尔夫特理工大学博士后(玛丽居里学者)。担任中国图学学会可视化与认知计算专委会委员、图学大数据专委会委员等。长期从事数字几何处理与计算制造等方向的研究。研究工作曾获国际结构与多学科优化学会/Springer最佳论文奖、GDC2021 最佳论文奖等。

曹娟,厦门大学数学科学学院副教授、博士生导师,于2009年在浙江大学获应用数学博士学位,曾在美国纽约州立大学石溪分校、卡内基梅隆大学、香港大学、新加坡南洋理工大学联合培养或访问。主要从事计算机辅助几何设计与图形学领域研究,包括多元样条理论及应用、复杂几何建模、等几何分析、网格生成等。已在ACM TOG, IEEE TVCG,CMAME,CAD,CAGD等期刊上发表学术论文四十余篇。担任SPM、GMP等多个会议程序委员会委员,中国工业与应用数学学会几何设计与计算专委会委员,中国图象图形学学会智能图形专委会委员,中国图象图形学学会三维视觉专委会委员。
