报告题目：Vision Science Meets Computer Graphics: Facts, Models, and Applications
The ultimate receiver of computer graphics techniques is the human, mainly through the eye, the retina, and the visual cortex. Vision science is a scientific field that studies statistical and computational facts of human visual system. It has spanned essential applications across computer vision, robotics, visualization, AI, and HCI. In this talk, I will briefly discuss recent research that leverages computational vision science to advance the quality, performance, and adaptability of computer graphics. I will primarily focus on these in computational display/imaging and immersive real-time rendering.
Qi Sun (http://qisun.me/) is an assistant professor at New York University, Tandon School of Engineering. Before joining NYU, he was a research scientist at Adobe Research and research intern at NVIDIA Research. He received his PhD at Stony Brook University. His research interests lie in perceptual computer graphics, VR/AR, visual optics, and human-computer interaction. He is a recipient of the IEEE Virtual Reality Best Dissertation Award.
闫令琪博士，加州大学圣塔芭芭拉分校助理教授，于 2013 年获清华大学学士学位，2018 年获加州大学伯克利分校博士学位。他的主要研究方向是基于物理的真实感图形渲染及其相关的数学和物理理论，包括真实感材质观测和建模、离线和实时的光线追踪、信号的采样和重建、高效的光线传播和散射等。闫令琪在高度细致的真实感渲染方面的研究开创了下一代计算机图形学的研究方向, 在实时光线追踪方面的贡献直接推动了工业界的光线追踪 GPU 架构。闫令琪博士在 2018 年因其开创性研究被授予 C.V. Ramamoorthy 杰出科研奖，并于 2019 年获得 SIGGRAPH 最佳博士论文奖。他的科研成果还被直接应用于电影和游戏行业，曾帮助影片《猩球崛起3：终极之战》获得 2018 年奥斯卡最佳视觉效果奖提名，并在《狮子王2019》中的动物毛发渲染上得到广泛应用。
Zexiang Xu is a Research Scientist at Adobe Research. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of California San Diego in 2020, advised by Prof. Ravi Ramamoorthi. His Ph.D. research was recognized by Adobe Research Fellowship (2019) and UCSD Chancellor’s Dissertation Medal (2021). His areas of research lie at the intersection of computer graphics and computer vision, mainly about high-quality scene reconstruction and rendering. His recent work focuses on developing novel neural approaches to address classical problems of relighting, view synthesis, 3D reconstruction, appearance modeling, and rendering.
Liang Shi is a PhD candidate at MIT CSAIL advised by Prof. Wojciech Matusik. His current research focus on computational display for virtual/augmented reality, appearance modeling, and computational fabrication. His research has been recognized by Sony Focus Research Award 2018, MIT.nano/NCSOFT Seed Grant Award 2019, Facebook Fellowship 2021. He received his Master’s degree from Stanford University supervised by Prof. Gordon Wetzstein and was a member of Stanford Computational Imaging Lab. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Beihang University. He was an intern at NVIDIA Research, Adobe Research, and Facebook Reality Lab. He is a recipient of Facebook Fellowship 2021.
