报告题目:Enhancing Object Selection and Manipulation for Complex Virtual Reality Interaction


Existing object selection and manipulation techniques in VR are primarily based on mid-air interaction with virtual hands or ray pointers. They are natural and intuitive but often criticized for being imprecise, inefficient, and cumbersome. They also have limited expressiveness if they simply replicate how we interact with objects in physical reality. Therefore, these techniques are insufficient for complex VR interaction scenarios that contain small, faraway, and occluded targets or require precise, versatile, and prolonged operations. In this talk, I will present interaction techniques and predictive models for effective and efficient VR interactions.


Difeng is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, working with Joanna Bergström. He was a Ph.D. student at the University of Melbourne from 2019 to 2023, advised by Jorge Goncalves, Eduardo Velloso, and Tilman Dingler. He received his BSc degree from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in 2018 and was a member of X-CHI Lab, directed by Hai-Ning Liang. He was a research intern at Meta Reality Labs in 2021. His Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research focuses on designing interaction techniques and modeling user behavior in Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality systems.





报告题目:Location-Aware Adaptation of Augmented Reality Narratives


The recent popularity of augmented reality (AR) devices has enabled players to participate in interactive narratives through virtual events and characters populated in a real-world environment, where different actions may lead to different story branches. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to adapt narratives to real spaces for AR experiences. Our optimization-based approach automatically assigns contextually compatible locations to story events, synthesizing a navigation graph to guide players through different story branches while considering their walking experiences. We validated the effectiveness of our approach for adapting AR narratives to different scenes through experiments and user studies.


Dr. Wanwan Li is serving as a visiting assistant professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF). Before Dr. Wanwan Li received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science at George Mason University (GMU) in 2021, he has been working in the Design Computing and eXtended Reality (DCXR) Lab with Dr. Lap-Fai (Craig) Yu for three years since 2019. Dr. Wanwan Li received an M.S. (Masterer’s of Science) degree in Computer Science major from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2016 and received a B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) degree in computer science and technology major from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in 2014. His research interests include Computer Graphics (CG), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Augmented Virtuality (AV), Edutainment & e-Training, Procedural Modeling, Computational Design, Deep Learning (DL), Sketch-Based Interface (SBI) and Text-Based Interface. 汪淼,北京航空航天大学副教授,博士生导师。2016年博士毕业于清华大学,2016-2018年于清华大学从事博士后研究,2018年起于北京航空航天大学虚拟现实技术与系统全国重点实验室历任助理研究员、副教授。主要从事虚拟/增强现实研究,包括协同交互呈现、多模态驱动的数字人、神经渲染与内容生成等。发表论文30余篇,包括多篇ACM TOG、IEEE TVCG、IEEE VR、ISMAR等论文。2018年作为主要完成人获得国家科学技术进步二等奖,2020年入选第五届中国科协青年人才托举工程。现任中国计算机学会虚拟现实与可视化技术专委执委,中国仿真学会虚拟技术及应用专委副主任,中国图学学会国际联络工委秘书。多次担任IEEE VR、ISMAR、PG、CVM等会议程序委员。
