报告题目:Towards intelligent navigation in virtual reality


User-friendly virtual reality (VR) has gained popularity thanks to the development of affordable head-mounted displays such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Navigation plays an important role in a large number of domains using VR. Users are requested to customize their viewpoint to explore unknown virtual environments, searching or manoeuvring objects. However, cybersickness as an inherent issue of VR navigation becomes even worse. It is associated with various symptoms such as nausea, disorientation, headaches, fatigue, eye strain et al., posing a threat to user experience. Multiple human-related factors such as gender, age, gaming experience and ethnicity, and external factors including navigation methods or visual display parameters have proved to affect the occurrence of cybersickness. Therefore, the level of sickness symptoms varies significantly among individuals, depending on their characteristics, the technologies being utilized, the tasks being conducted and the design of the virtual environment. In this talk, I will present my work related to the evaluation and reduction of cybersickness, and discuss recent research aiming at designing a customized VR experience.


Yuyang Wang is a postdoctoral researcher at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), with a PhD from Arts et Metiers Institute of Technology, France, with a specialty in the field of virtual reality. His research interests include the application of data-driven modelling methods to develop intelligent and adaptive navigation and interaction systems in 3D virtual environments to provide a better user experience. Under the framework of Franco-German University, he worked as a visiting PhD researcher for a staying in the Industry 4.0 Collaboration Lab at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. His work in virtual reality research has been published in several top journals and conferences such as the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies (CCF-A), IEEE VR, and IEEE ITSC. Moreover, he has served as a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, and reviewer for several top conferences including IEEE VR, IEEE ISMAR, ACM VRST etc.




报告题目:Understand, Predict and Enhance User Behaviors in Mixed Reality


My research focus lies in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). My research is focused on understanding, predicting and enhancing user behavior in Mixed Reality (MR) interaction, which follows three connected threads: 1) study and model the user’s behavioral and perceptual patterns, 2) develop instinctive input techniques and adaptive user interfaces, 3) explore enhancement mechanisms that optimizes user behaviors and perceptions.


本科与博士毕业于清华大学计算机科学与技术系,导师史元春教授,现于卡内基梅隆大学做博士后研究,导师David Lindlbauer,将于明年加入香港科学大学广州校区,任计算媒体与艺术学域助理教授。曾获中国电子学会优秀博士学位论文,清华大学优秀博士学位论文,博士研究生国家奖学金,清华大学挑战杯特等奖,ACM CHI最佳论文提名奖。研究方向是人机交互与混合现实,在人机交互领域顶级会议及期刊(ACM CHI, UIST, IMWUT)18篇,其中第一作者或通讯作者11篇,担任中国计算机学会人机交互专委执行委员,CHI 22,CHI 23, UIST 21, UIST 22 Associate Chair。



​汪淼,博士,北京航空航天大学虚拟现实技术与系统国家重点实验室副研究员,CCF高级会员。主要研究方向为虚拟/增强现实和计算机图形学,重点研究面向虚拟现实的内容生成和自然交互理论与方法,发表论文30余篇。担任IEEE VR、ISMAR、CVM、PG等学术会议程序委员。曾作为主要完成人获得国家科技进步二等奖1项,入选第五届中国科协青年人才托举工程。
