The climb from Tier 1 to Tier 20 in the Simulacrum of Path of Exile 2 is a thrilling and intense challenge that progressively tests your build’s damage, survivability, and skillful play.

      Simulacrum Structure and Tier Progression

The Simulacrum consists of 15 waves of enemies that increase in difficulty, density, and modifiers. Although traditionally it was considered 15 waves, current content and guides sometimes consider difficulty scaling akin to tiers or ranks up to level 20 in terms of escalating challenge.

Each wave introduces stronger monsters with increased life, damage, and powerful delirious affixes that heighten their toughness and abilities.

Starting easier at Tier 1 (or Wave 1), the Simulacrum gradually ramps up to a punishing Tier 20 where monsters can have several hundreds of percent increased life and damage, along with dangerous mods like penetration, elemental damage over time, and crowd control.

Along with monster toughness, the delirium effect also intensifies, causing monsters to gain additional modifiers that make fights complex, especially at higher waves.

      Key Gameplay Dynamics Across Tiers

      Early Tiers (1–5):
These initial waves test basic survival and damage output. Enemies have moderate health and damage, making them ideal for warming up and establishing your clearing rhythm. You’ll face fewer and less dangerous affixes, allowing players to experiment with positioning and skill combos.

      Mid Tiers (6–12):
Monster health and damage see notable increases here, with more frequent affix combinations and tougher minions. You will start encountering rare monsters and bosses at regular intervals, and some enemy modifiers may cause significant mechanical challenges like chase mechanics or damaging ground effects.

      High Tiers (13–20):
These represent the true endgame challenge. Monsters have massive increased life and damage, along with dangerous map-wide or area-specific affixes. Bosses become formidable threats with layered attack patterns that punish mistakes.

Delirious effects peak, meaning monsters resist damage and hit extremely hard.

Instant-death mechanics and leap slam attacks become much more punishing.

Only highly optimized builds with strong positioning, defense layers, and high burst AoE damage typically survive this gauntlet.

Success here often requires use of lifesaving items such as Omen of Resurgence and mastery of movement skills.

      Progression Rewards and Incentives

Completing each wave or tier grants loot rewards including currency, crafting materials, and unique Simulacrum-only items.

Exclusive and high-value unique items, such as “Struggle Scream,” “Megalomaniac,” and “Collapsing Rift,” only drop at higher tiers (around 15–20), enticing players to push through the entire chain.

Successfully completing all waves usually grants Atlas Passive Points to further empower your overall Atlas progression.

The challenge and scaling difficulty encourage players to push builds progressively, improving gear and refining tactics as they move closer to Tier 20.

Tips for Climbing From Tier 1 to Tier 20

      Build Optimization:
Focus on high area-of-effect damage to clear waves swiftly, combined with strong survivability through life, energy shield, evasion, or block. Hybrid tanky-damage builds like Titan Warrior or high-mobility spellcasters are meta favorites.

      Mobility and Positioning:
Stay moving constantly to avoid leap slam and heavy boss attacks. Running circular or sideways movement patterns helps maintain space in claustrophobic arena zones.

      Flask Management:
Utility flasks that grant immunities (freeze, bleed, curse) and evasion boosts or instant recovery are essential, especially at higher waves.

      Boss Targeting:
Quickly prioritize dangerous bosses such as Kosis and Omniphobia to free up space and reduce damage taken.

      Use Lifesaving Items:
Items like Omen of Resurgence that revive you upon lethal damage can make the difference between wipe and progression in tough waves.

      Inventory and Loot Management:
Clear out loot and stash items between waves promptly to avoid losing valuable rewards.

The climb through Simulacrum’s tiers from 1 to 20 is a rigorous ramping gauntlet testing every aspect of your build and gameplay. Early tiers allow learning and adjustment, mid tiers push your limits with tougher affixes and bosses, and high tiers represent peak endgame difficulty with punishing monsters and elite rewards. Success demands a combination of build strength, positional awareness, smart resource management, and mastery of mechanics. Reaching Tier 20 offers rich loot rewards and unique item drops, making the journey both demanding and highly rewarding.
