In Singapore, the eligibility criteria for being a resident director are set by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). To qualify as a resident director, an individual must meet the following requirements:

      1. Singapore Citizenship or PR Status: The individual must be a Singapore citizen, a Singapore permanent resident (PR), or a holder of an Employment Pass (EP) with a valid work visa.

      2. Age Requirement: The individual must be at least 18 years old.

      3. Not an Undischarged Bankrupt: The individual must not be an undischarged bankrupt in Singapore or elsewhere.

      4. Residency: A resident director in Singapore must ordinarily reside in Singapore. Foreigners with a valid Employment Pass can fulfil this requirement if they work in Singapore.

Additionally, for companies with only one director, the director must be a resident of Singapore. For companies with more than one director, at least one must fulfill the resident director criteria. These requirements ensure that businesses are accountable and operate under local regulatory oversight.
