JustinParticipantThe Trial of the Sekhemas in Path of Exile 2 is a pivotal Ascendancy challenge consisting of multiple floors filled with a mix of combat rooms, traps, and puzzles, culminating in a boss fight against Zarohk, the Temporal. Entered using special coins called Sekhemas Baryas (specifically the Test of Will Barya for the relevant trial floors), this roguelike dungeon tests your combat skill, resource management, and survival tactics, all while managing a unique resource called Honour.
Key Components: Boons, Barya, and Battle
1. Sekhemas Barya (Test of Will Barya)The Barya coins are special keys required to enter and progress through the Trial of the Sekhemas.
They have levels (usually 60 and 75+) dictating the number of floors you must complete—3 floors at level 60, 4 floors at level 75—with increasing difficulty and better rewards.
Barya coins can be obtained from monster drops in high-tier Desert Biome maps or via trading in the game economy.
2. Honour Mechanic
Honour is a separate health pool calculated from your combined life and energy shield.
Damage taken depletes Honour alongside your life/energy shield, and if Honour reaches zero, you’re ejected from the trial (failure without death).
Honour cannot be recovered with standard flasks or regeneration; restoration only occurs through special Boons, Relics, and Shrines found inside the trial.
Maintaining high Honour and increasing Honour Resistance (which reduces Honour damage taken) is critical to progressing deeper.
3. Boons and Relics
Boons are temporary buffs purchasable inside the trial from a merchant using Sacred Water (a resource collected throughout the trial).
There are Major Boons (strong buffs like Honour restoration, damage immunity for a short time, disabling traps) and Minor Boons (smaller but useful buffs such as movement speed, damage boosts, trap damage reduction).
Examples include:
Earned Honour: Restores a portion of Honour on room completion.
Imperial Seal: Disables traps.
Orbala’s Leathers: Grants a one-time revival with partial Honour on dying.
Holy Water: Random minor boon on shrine use.
Relics are items you equip before starting the trial, providing static benefits like Honour Resistance, max life, or increased damage. They are essential for survivability and can be farmed or traded.
4. Trial Structure and Strategy
Each floor consists of rooms with various challenges: enemy waves, traps, time trials, and puzzle-like encounters.
You must choose your path wisely, managing Honour and selecting clearest or less punishing rooms. Some rooms or paths may offer Honour restoration or increased loot rewards.
Combat rooms often require good clear speed and survivability; builds that emphasize mobility and damage mitigation perform best.
Managing afflictions (negative effects) and maximizing boon usage are crucial.
5. Boss Fight
The final floor features Zarohk, the Temporal, a challenging boss that tests your mastery of the trial’s mechanics and builds.
Success yields Ascendancy Points essential for character progress and unique rewards, making the trial critical for endgame advancement.
Mastering the Trial requires careful Honour management, effective use of Relics and Boons, strategic room selection, and strong build preparation. Farming Barya coins in Desert Biome maps with Atlas bonuses and efficient map clearing is also essential to sustain attempts and upgrades.
This layered challenge blends roguelike elements with ARPG combat, rewarding players who balance risk and resourcefulness in this unique Path of Exile 2 experience.
